Diva
With the enormous success of last season’s show Cinderella, Garbo’s turn the page once again to do something totally different.
Taking Garbo’s image of musical and popular music into consideration, we decided to approach pop and rock with a musical theatre visual, using the world’s most famous pop and rock songs. After deciding which artists to use the problem of choosing songs and the task of naming the show proved to be more difficult.
When looking at the material we were going to use I knew the answer was in there somewhere. Something that all the artists had in common.
Not only are they superstars in their own genre, but they are also men. Men who have made a huge footprint in the history of music. Not only records but also on stage and screen, collecting admiration and awards for their work and contribution to music.
Their private lives have often been displayed openly in the media and their fans have looked upon them as Gods: divus. Some of these artists started their music career at the age of 12 and the list of number one hits is enormous. After months of research the answer still wasn’t clear and we were forced to call several big radio stations to find out which songs from these artists were played the most.
When almost a hundred songs where chosen they where sent to Sweden to be recorded into backtracks at the famous Polar Studio in Stockholm where ABBA used to record all their music. Meanwhile costumes and set design were being worked on and together with the music, trying to achieve a product that was not a copy of the original artists but yet something that had a flavour of them but was still our own interpretation. We hope that the Divas in Garbo’s will perform and interpret your favourite songs to your liking and see to it that you will have the best night of your holiday.
Stars & Traps
When doing versions of songs from the famous American musical West Side Story:
Where “I Feel Pretty” is sung by a man and “I Want to Live in America” fills the stage with american cheerleaders.
The characters from South Park perform “Officer Krupkie” and “Cool” is sung in the style of barbershop quartet. Then it’s quite easy to understand why the American flag became Stars and Straps and not Stars and Stripes.
Join us on a comical journey from the American Continent to the Britsh Isles. Everything from habit forming nuns to Monty Python will be on the menu.
Get in the Swing of things when gospel hits the ceiling and rhythms from Copacabana take to the floor. Come and meet your personal artist who also will be your waiter and we promise
that you have never experienced a dinner turning out this funny.
At Garbo’s you will enjoy your vacation’s best evening out.
And remember “You haven’t been to Gran Canaria if you haven’t been to Garbo’s
Garbo’s is Unforgettable.
That's Enternaiment
During the 1970’s and 1980’s Gene Kelly was seen most in retrospectives and awards shows. “That's Entertainment!” and “That's Entertainment II” were extremely successful, and a whole new generation became enthralled by the magic of movie musicals.
It was this thought that made Garbo’s Unforgettable put it’s creative team together to develop a show that was more about remembering the old rather than creating something new. “That’s Entertainment” offers you the possibility to step back in time and look at some of Broadways most memorable show numbers or listen to some of the worlds greatest pop and rock songs. Musical numbers presented with their original choreography or with humour based on our love for a particular artist or musical.
To quote Gene Kelly’s final words from the film “That's Entertainment III” from 1994:
“The song has ended, but the melody lingers on.”
Join us in our unique concept where the entertainers are also your personal waiter.
At Garbo’s you will experience your holiday’s most memorable evening.
We promise that this show with stay with you for a very long time.
That’s Entertainment.
That’s Garbo’s Unforgettable.
The Wiz
The Wiz And The Soda Shop is marking a new period in time in the concept of Garbo’s Dinner show where the artists also are your personal waiters. Ever since the opening in 1997 our evening out has been based on a six medley system, where medleys of different kinds (Circus, James Bond, Musicals and more) are spread out over the evening. This Season we are turning Garbo’s into an even bigger theatre experience where our six medleys have become two acts. This gives us the opportunity to create better costumes and bigger sets. It will also give the artists more time to give you a more personal waiter service, and allow more time to enjoy your meal, have an extra glass of wine and chat to the other guests around the dinner table. Everything just to enhance your Garbo’s experience.
Act 1. “The Wiz” is based on L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz in which a little girl named Dorothy is abducted from her home by a tornado and transported to the Land of Oz. “The Wiz” takes the classic fairy tale in an all-new direction with an exciting rock score, and a decidedly modern libretto that reframes the story.
“The Wiz” opened at the Majestic Theatre on January 5, 1975. The production enjoyed a run of 1,672 performances and went on to win 7 Tony Awards including "Best Musical" and "Best Score." The 1978 film version featured Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Lena Horne and Richard Pryor.
In Garbo’s we will take you on a journey through a highlighted version of the musical and we promise that you, like Dorothy, will be swept away by this colourful story.
Act 2. Let us take you to New York to the world famous Soda Shop where your favourite Rock and Pop stars enjoy their free time. Order a milkshake from Aretha Franklin whilst watching Tom Jones and The Surpremes having a love quarrel. See how Shirley Bassy handles a five metre long boa and how Elvis handles his screaming fans. Never have you seen artists like Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys, ABBA and Tina Turner meet at the same place.
It can only happen att Garbo’s unforgettable, where no evening is ever the same!
Welcome!
